Past and Present Partnership

The Past and Present Partnership Program is a learning experience for the 5th graders of the Lindbergh School District.  Members of the Sappington-Concord Historical Society do various projects with the students.

Tombstone Tales:
At St. Lucas Cemetery six Society members each dress like one of the "deceased" and tell the students about themselves, the community, and how they lived "back then." See

Bus Tour:
Society members conduct a tour of the Sappington-Concord area, pointing out various plantations, farms, and houses of the early pioneer families.  A stop is made at the Bishop-Long log house where the students are told how a log cabin is constructed.  Another stop is at the Sappington Cemetery where John Sappington, Revolutionary War veteran, and others of the extended Sappington family are buried.

Hands-On Project:
A Society member goes to the classroom and the students are able to participate in various "chores" of the "olden days," such as squeezing oranges for fresh orange juice, planting corn, pleating, washing and wringing out clothes, and viewing pictures through a stereoscope. See
