See a demonstration of tomahawk throwing by Dale Thielker from 6:30 to 7:00 pm before the start of the SCHS general meeting on Wednesday, July 22, 2015. The demonstration will be outside in the grassy courtyard next to the meeting room, PD North and South in the administration building. See map to PD North and South in the administration building.

In colonial days, when there was a gathering for a picnic or festival on the village green, tomahawk throwing would have been a form of entertainment, perhaps a competition. Colonial Americans learned use of the tomahawk from Native Americans. Use of the tomahawk has been a part of American culture ever since. That also includes the American military.

The re-enactor, Dale Thielker, is an historic interpretive volunteer at the Daniel Boone home in Defiance, Missouri. He will be dressed as a middle class gentleman from the colonial era. He will portray Clifford Davies, retired school teacher. He will demonstrate throwing a tomahawk and explain the background of the sport. He will then allow attendees, including the kids, try their hand at throwing the tomahawk themselves. Dale makes safety the number one concern and safety is part of his demonstration. The Tomahawk and target will be provided!
