The Sappington-Concord Historical Society is an event-oriented and member oriented organization sponsoring events for its members and the general public. SCHS has several events that happen on a regular basis, and then there are events that are one time only, or just happen every now and then.
The main event of the year is the annual SCHS Memorial Day ceremony, held on Memorial Day.
The SCHS general meetings are the core of the event offerings of SCHS. The meetings are in the evening from 7:00 pm to 9:00 pm. They are held on the fourth Wednesday of the month, quarterly, in January, April, July and October.
The SCHS daytime presentations are afternoon events geared towards those members who can not attend evening events. There are usually two daytime presentations during the year, one in the fall and one in the winter, the times of the year when the sun goes down early. At the daytime presentations there is no business meeting, the presentation is the main attraction. The daytime presentations have been held in the auditorium at Tesson Ferry library and are co-sponsored with Tesson Ferry library.
There are generally four Meet-at-the-Site Tours during the year. They are usually a week after the quarterly general meeting. The tours are to local historic sites or museums. Meeting at an historic site of some kind gives members a set time, date and destination to see places they have an interest in, but never quite get around to visiting on their own. Plus, they can do it with friends.
SCHS at Friendship Village is a monthly daytime presentation for SCHS members who live at Friendship Village Sunset Hills. Any Friendship Village resident is invited to attend, as well as the general public. They are on Thursdays at 2:30 pm. They are held six to ten times a year.
Some SCHS events are one time only, or just happen every now and then.
The Treasures Show and Tell was held two times, in the fall of 2013 and 2014.
Some one time events are related to a special SCHS project. Among these are the dedication ceremony for the school bell restoration project at Concord Elementary School. Another was the dedication ceremony for the bust of Charles Lindbergh donated by SCHS to the Lindbergh Schools and installed in the auditorium lobby at Lindbergh High School.
SCHS tries to offer a bus tour or two each year.
